Tour overview
Beijing eats breakfast like an empire: savoury soy milk, sesame flatbreads fired in coal ovens, tofu pudding with chilli oil, and jianbing — the crepe that fuels the city's cab drivers. On this small-group walk (8 guests max) you try six breakfasts across three neighbourhood institutions, all before 10 a.m.
We start where the day starts: a wet market street where grandmas haggle over peaches while dogs in coats supervise. You will learn what Beijingers actually buy, why breakfast is the city's most egalitarian meal, and how to order your own soy milk "extra fermented" if you dare.
This is the tour for travellers who believe understanding a city starts with its stomach. Come hungry — there is no "just a taste" here.

Your itinerary
Soy Milk Corner
We meet at a breakfast shop that has served the neighbourhood for 40 years: warm soy milk, fried dough sticks (youtiao) and the fermented version locals swear by. Your buddy orders the first round while explaining breakfast etiquette.
Jianbing Griddle
The street-cart crepe: mung-bean batter, egg, crisps, coriander and chili — assembled in 90 seconds flat. You get your own, customized. Watch the queue politics: cab drivers, office workers, one retired opera singer.
Market Street Walk
Through the wet market: pickled-egg barrels, peach pyramids, live fish tanks and the spice stall that supplies half the hutong. Learn what's in season, how to bargain like a grandma, and why presentation matters here.
Sweet Finish & Tea
End at a halal bakery for sugar-coated twists and a honey pastry, plus a cup of jasmine tea to settle it all. Your buddy hands you breakfast-ordering cards for the rest of your trip.
